3rd Annual Spotlight on Stewardship: Equine Land Management Symposium

June 30th, 2017; 9:00AM-5:00PM

Registration is now closed.

Virginia Tech's Middleburg Agricultural Research and Extension Center (M.A.R.E. Center) and the National Sporting Library & Museum (NSLM) are excited to announce the 3rd Annual Spotlight on Stewardship: Equine Land Management Symposium. Northern Virginia’s vibrant equine culture draws many prospective homeowners to buy real estate in the region, creating a need for greater understanding of the ins and outs of equine land management. The Spotlight on Stewardship symposium will bring together equine scientists, real estate experts, and conservationists to educate both buyers and sellers about the best ways to optimize their land management for the health of their horses, land, and pocketbooks. The symposium will also be useful for those who already manage land for horses or have recently purchased a horse property.

The program will begin with seminars at NSLM on pasture improvement; cost shares for the installation of best management practices and facilities; and a roundtable of equestrian real estate specialists to discuss equine-specific aspects of the real estate market. Attendees will then enjoy a tour of the National Sporting Library, followed by lunch and a haywagon ride to the M.A.R.E. Center for hands-on educational workshops. Workshops will address topics such as soil health, fencing, layout & design of the farmscape, and more. Attendees are then invited to ride the haywagon to Boxwood Winery for a tasting, followed by a self-guided tour of the museum and concert on the lawn at the NSLM Open Late where local gourmet food trucks and beverage vendors will be on site.
