Summer Employment

We have summer employment opportunities for high school and college/university students!

  • All positions require submission of the Virginia Tech P12W wage form linked below.
  • If applicant is a minor (under 18 years of age), please note that permission from a parent/guardian will be required for employment.
  • Employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a background and driving check (for those applicants over the age of 18).

Pay ranges from $15-$18/hour depending on experience. 

Typical duties may include:

  • maintaining field plots
  • cleaning equipment and lab spaces
  • collecting data in field and lab situations
  • entering data in Excel or other database programs/apps
  • assisting in other tasks as needed

Typical work schedule:

  • M-F from 7:30AM - 4:00PM with a 30 minute lunch hours 
  • hours/schedule ultimately up to the supervisor and may change depending on weather and if travel is necessary

The Virginia Tech soybean agronomy program is seeking summer help at the Tidewater Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Suffolk, Virginia. The position will provide valuable experience facilitating soybean agronomy research with additional opportunities to attend educational events. Experience or interest in agriculture or research is preferred but training will be provided to learn necessary skills. Pay ranges from $15-$18/hour depending on experience. 

Typical duties may include:

  • preparation, data collection, sample processing, plot management, and general support both indoors and outdoors
  • Some travel will be required to additional research stations within the state of Virginia

Typical work schedule:

  • work schedule will generally be 40 hours per week but will vary with weather conditions
