Virginia Seafood AREC team in front of new facility.
The Virginia Seafood AREC has begun transitioning operations to 15 Rudd Lane in Hampton.

We're making moves!

Last week in Hampton, you might've seen coastal birds sunbathing, watermen stacking crab pots on the marina, and an odd parade of incubators, cell culture hoods, water pumps, and computers as we began moving into our new facility.

The new facility has taken shape on the Hampton River waterfront, right next door to the previous building that served as a base for the Virginia Seafood AREC for decades. Over the years, researchers and extension agents made creative use of the space to deliver research and technical support to the Virginia seafood industry.

The upgraded space includes processing and microbiological laboratories, aquaculture and fisheries research facilities, expanded classroom training space, and additional workstations and accommodations for visiting faculty, students, and industry collaborators.

The Virginia Seafood AREC team will continue transitioning operations over the coming months.
