Shrimp Biofloc Enrichment Trial

Effect of the copepod Apocyclops panamensis on the microbial aggregates enrichment in Litopenaeus vannamei reared in Biofloc Technologic system.

The present study aims to investigate whether the copepod introduction into the microbial aggregates increases the biofloc protein content and improves the shrimp culture productivity.  A grow-out cycle of Litopenaeus vannamei will be carried out, in which bioflocs will be developed, and the copepod Apocyclops panamensis will be introduced to the systems.

This research is part of Dr. Dariano Krummenauer's sabbatical leave, professor of the Federal University of Rio Grande - FURG, Brazil. Dr. Dariano is spending a year at VSAREC, funded by the Brazilian Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES).
